Employee ‘Quiets’ Man With Pillow

iStock_000005609223XSmallForget about asking a nursing home resident to be quiet or actually attending to what may resident needs- just stick a pillow on their face and hope that quiets them.  That is the approach used by Jesse Bodey, an employee at Life Care nursing home used with an 85-year-old man when he was screaming in the nursing home.  Witnesses say Bodey then placed a pillow over the patients head. A co-worker reported the incident, but when the supervisor checked on the patient, the pillow was gone.

The staff at the home told Police that Bodey wasn’t trying to suffocate the patient. They say he was trying to quiet him down but went about it in an unorthodox way.  Bodey is facing several charges, including one count of reckless endangerment and two counts of offensive touching. He is out on bond. No court date has been set. He has been suspended without pay from the nursing home. The staff says the patient is doing okay.  Read more about this case of nursing home abuse here.

You’ve got to hand it to this guy, he did a nice job fabricating a story to get himself out of murder charges.  What would have happened if he would have spent more time ‘quieting’ the patient?

IT IS SAD THAT EVERYONE JUMPS TO CONCLUSIONS, AND THE WHOLE STORY ISN’T TOLD CORRECTLY. IT IS SAD THAT THE STAFF AT THE NSG FACILITY WOULD NOT HELP THIS YOUNG MAN WHEN HE REQUESTED HELP LIFTING A 200 POUND RESIDENT. IT IS SAD THAT THE WORKER AND THE RESIDENT COULD HAVE GOTTEN HURT, BECAUSE NO ONE WOULD HELP. NOW THAT IS ABUSE! SAFETY THAT SHOULD BE NUMBER ONE, BUT NO ON WOULD HELP. DOES THE RESIDENT EVER HIT WORKERS WITH HIS FIST?DID ANYONE SAY? NO ONE WILL HELP A 120POUND WORKER, BUT YET, NOW THIS WORKER HAS 6 CHARGES AGAINST HIM, BECAUSE HE ACTUALLY GOT THE RESIDENT TO LAUGH AND QUIT YELLING, SIMPLY FROM PLACING A PILLOW ON HIS FACE AND PLAYING PEEK A BOO! WELL THE RESIDENT LAUGHED FOR A MOMENT, AND THEN IT WAS GONE, AND NOW A LOVING HEALTHCARE WORKER IS LOOKING AT 2 YEARS IN PRISON, BECAUSE ANOTHER WORKER DIDN’T LIKE THE 120POUND WHITE CHRISTIAN MALE WORKER, AND WOULDN’T EVEN HELP HIM, WHEN HE ASKED! COME ON PEOPLE! THIS GUY WAS CHECKED OUT, NO CRIMINAL RECORD, A CARING PERSON, BEFORE HE WAS HIRED INTO THIS PLACE. IS THAT WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT, TAKE A GOOD THING AND MAKE IT SUFFER? WELL, I FEEL THAT THE NSG FACILITY SHOULD PROVIDE HELP FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES WHEN THEY NEED IT. AND LIKE WISE, MAYBE THE RESIDENT HADN’T BEEN SEDATED YET TO QUIET HIM DOWN, MAYBE THE MEDS HADN’T GOTTEN AROUND TO HIM YET, OH, AND I AM SURE THAT THE WRONG MEDS HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO RESIDENTS BEFORE, OH, BUT I BET NO ONE WENT TO JAIL OVER IT, BECAUSE MAYBE NO ONE KNEW BUT THE PERSON THAT ADMINISTERED IT. YES, IT JUST DON’T SEEM FAIR, THAT SOMEONE THAT CARES SO MUCH FOR PEOPLE, SHOULD HAVE TO SUFFER LIKE THIS!

Client Reviews

  • Having worked in the medical field, I appreciated the way that Mr. Rosenfeld and his staff approached my family’s situation. The combination of medical knowledge and legal expertise was indeed the winning combination for our case.
    ★★★★★
  • While nothing can change the way our mother was treated at a nursing facility, I do feel a sense of vindication that the facility was forced to pay for their treatment. I am certain that they would never have done had my attorneys not held their feet to the fire.
    ★★★★★
  • I was very nervous about initiating a claim against my mother’s nursing facility, but Rosenfeld Injury Lawyers took care of everything from getting the medical records to going to court. I felt like I had real advocates on my side. That meant a lot to me.
    ★★★★★
  • After a horrific episode at a nursing home, my sister and I spoke to a number of law firms. No one took the time to answer our questions and explain the legal process like Mr. Rosenfeld. He did a tremendous job on our case and I can see why he’s earned the praise he has from clients and peers.

  • I liked the fact that I could call the office and ask questions about the legal process at anytime. I could tell that my case was in good hands. I think that this was reflected in my father’s settlement was more than I anticipated the case ever being worth.
